Glacier senior center Jaxen Hashley dominated the paint against Great Falls High, leading Glacier with 19 points and 11 rebounds in a 66-58 victory over the previously undefeated Bison in a Class AA nonconference boys basketball game on Friday night.
The Wolfpack (3-0) bounded out to a seven-point lead after the first quarter and battled back and forth with the Bison (3-1) for the rest of the game, holding them off down the stretch despite going just 13 for 25 from the free-throw line.
Hashley was a big part, drawing the attention of last season’s Gatorade player of the year Brendan Howard, who also had a big night with 21 points.
“It was two real big, physical kids going at it,” Glacier coach Mark Harkins said.
“Jaxen was a stud tonight. Real physical in the paint. He scored, but he passed really well out of it and rebounded well too.”
Caden Harkins added 17 points for the Wolfpack.
Kody Torgerson scored 15 points in the losing effort for Great Falls.
“It was a battle against a good team,” Mark Harkins said. “The kids rose to the occasion and competed hard.
“It’s nice to know where we’re at. We think we have a lot of potential on this team. We haven’t realized it yet, but it’s nice to see we’re getting there.”
The Wolfpack hit the road next week for a doubleheader ahead of the holidays, playing at Butte on Thursday and at Bozeman on Friday.
