Coach Mark Harkins has been the head coach at Glacier High School since it opened in 2007, and as of the start of the 2018-19 season has coached them to over 140 wins.
Prior to Glacier High School, Coach Harkins has been an assistant basketball and assistant football at Flathead High School, head football and assistant track at Columbia Falls High School, assistant football, assistant basketball, and assistant track at Whitefish High School, and Head Football, assistant basketball, assistant track at Bridgeport, WA. This is my 26th year teaching/coaching at the high school level.
Coach Harkins graduated high school from Snohomish High, and college at Western Washington. His wife Christy has been a head volleyball coach/teacher for 23 years. They have been married for 24 years. Together they have 3 sons, Colton (24), Kyler (21), and Caden (19). All 3 boys graduated from Glacier High.
At the conclusion of the state championship season in 2016-17, Coach Harkins was awarded the honor of Coach of the Year by the Montana Coaches Association.
Daren grew up on a farm in Geraldine, MT and played basketball at the University of Montana from 1988-92. During his junior and senior seasons with the Grizzlies, the team won back-to-back Big Sky conference championships and played in the NCAA tournament both years. He was named 1st team all Big Sky Conference in both his junior and senior seasons and broke the all-time conference record for the number of career blocked shots. Daren went on to play professionally in Europe from 1993 to 2003 in Portugal, Sweden, Belgium, Germany, and Switzerland. Upon returning to Montana, Daren helped coach at Flathead High School for four years from 2003 to 2007 assisting head coach Fred Febach.
Daren received his bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a Master’s in Business Administration, both from the University of Montana. Currently, Daren is self-employed owning his own insurance business called Glacier Insurance Strategies. Daren also operates a car wash in Evergreen called Clean Getaway Car Wash.
Daren and his wife Melissa have three boys Drew (17), Trey (13) and Sam (11).
Coach Ben Cutler is in his fifth year coaching at Glacier High School and is currently coaching the JV team. He is also a 5th-year math teacher at Glacier High School.
Coach Wakefield returns to Glacier High School for his seventh season with the Wolfpack. He has been part of Coach Harkin’s staff for the past four seasons. Prior to coaching boy’s basketball at Glacier High School, Coach Wakefield was part of the Glacier Girl’s Program from 2007 – 2010 where he served as coach of the Junior Varsity. His other coaching stops include Flathead High School, Kalispell Middle School and Helena Flats School. Coach Wakefield has been coaching basketball for 21 years.
Coach Wakefield is married to Kim Wakefield and together they have three boys; Braden (13), Bryson (9) and Bosley (7).
