Helena Capital boys basketball dominates Kalispell Glacier

HELENA — The Helena Capital boys basketball team defeated Glacier 53-29 Friday night at Helena Capital.

The Bruins outscored the Wolfpack 18-7 in the first period, and took a 25-13 lead at halftime.

Capital didn’t allow Glacier to score in double-digits in any quarter for the entire game with nine being the most points they scored at one time in the second half.

Bruins coach Guy Almquist talked about responding after they lost a close game to rival Helena.

“I am pretty proud of the kids,” Almquist said. “Last week was a tough loss, and you can’t come out (in the next game) and get beat twice. You have to refocus the next game. I thought our kids came out with a lot of passion tonight, and I think our team still needs to show a little bit more emotion. We talked about doing that and really cheering each other on and celebrating. Other than one rough patch in the second quarter, I thought this was a very consistent game for us.”

Capital’s Trevor Swanson led the team with 15 points. Garrett Kueber and Cade Kidder both scored eight.

Almquist hopes his team can carry its momentum moving forward against Flathead.

“Hopefully, we’ve broken through the glass ceiling and now we have to go and get this train rolling,” Almquist said. “We are kind of at the point of the year and can’t take many steps back. We have to keep moving forward.”
